(BIVN) – Fire officials and eye witnesses are reporting a large brushfire located in the area of Ka’alualu near South Point in Ka’u.

Due to the fire, Hawaii County Civil Defense issued an advisory alert.

There are no roadway closures at this time, officials say. Motorist should be on the lookout for emergency vehicles.

Civil Defense also says smoke from the fire may affect visibility for driving and air quality for adjacent communities.

Persons are requested to stay out of the active fire area. Additional closures may occur without notice, officials say.
