(BIVN) – Local lawmakers are talking over the county’s heading into a possible special state legislative session that could be convened to address the volcanic eruption on the lower East Rift Zone of Kilauea.
Communication 1017, brought before the Hawaii County Council Committee on Governmental Relations and Economic Development, requested “discussion with the administration to provide an update on the eruption recovery efforts and a proposed legislative package.”
State Senator Russell Ruderman testified on the agenda item, and said that he had yet to see the administration’s proposal.
Although the committee hearing was scheduled to continue on Wednesday following the full council meeting, Mayor Harry Kim was able to speak to the council during Tuesday’s Finance Committee session.
