HAWAIʻI ISLAND - The utility says customers in remote and severely damaged areas will be the exception.

(BIVN) – On Friday morning, the Hawaiian Electric company said it expected to restore power to “nearly all impacted customers” on Hawai‘i Island by today.

As of 8:30 a.m., the utility said about 11,290 were still without power. The company said customers in remote and severely damaged areas will have to wait longer for the power to be restored.

Essentially all Oʻahu and Maui customers affected by Hurricane Lala have been restored.

Form Hawaiian Electric:

Today, through Hawaiian Electric’s partnership in the Western Region Mutual Assistance Group, utility workers from Southern California Edison are providing additional manpower to our employees and contractors on Hawaiʻi Island who have been working around the clock to repair equipment and restore power ahead of the new potential storm system approaching the state. SCE personnel will work under the direction of Hawaiian Electric’s Hawai‘i Island crews to support the restoration efforts in some of hardest hit areas that saw severe flash flooding and extreme winds.

“With another potential storm on its way, the company urges customers to review their emergency plans, ensure they have supplies on hand and to closely monitor weather updates,” the utility said.
