Aloha Friends,

I wanted to give you all a status update of the rock head wall and railing project at the Old Māmalahoa Highway culvert above the church leading to Āhualoa in Hamakua.

The County completed the design of the project and the Request for Proposals (RFP) went out to bid at the end of January 2011. The Department of Public Works will open the bids received on March 3, 2011 at which time they will review the bids and award the contract. Construction is expected to begin April 2011.

I would like to thank you for your patience regarding this very important project. We are very grateful to the Public Works, State Civil Defense, FEMA, and the community for working to get this project underway.

Warmest Aloha,

Dominic Yagong,
Council Member
