Over a thousand competitors took the early morning plunge into Anaehoomalu Bay in Waikoloa for the 14th Annual Lavaman Triathlon, which consists of a rugged 1.5k swim, a 40k bike and 10k run.
The winner amongst men – 25 year old Erich Wegscheider of San Jose California, who made his professional debut on Sunday.
First place for the women for the second straight time was local crowd favorite Bree Wee.
Also competing in the race: Hawaii County Mayor Billy Kenoi and Formula 1 driver Jensen Button. We will have more on these unlikely tri-athletes in the coming days.
