KEAAU, Hawaii: It was billed as the largest chess tournament ever held in the history of Kea’au town.
Last weekend, players from all over the Big Island participated in the event held at the Kea’au Village Market.
Jim Lee, the Chess Tournament Coordinate, took the time to tell us about the event as the cerebral action was underway.
On August 4th, the victors were crowned…. including the The Chess King of Keaau, Burt Izumikawa.
According to Lee, chess is something he would like to see more of in Hawaii schools.
