KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii – La’aloa Beach Park, also known as White Sands in Kailua-Kona, will be closed until 2 p.m. due today (July 4th) because of a shark sighting.
The shark sighting was confirmed by a Hawaii Fire Department helicopter. It was estimated to be 10 feet long.
The Hawaii County Police Department says further closures may be necessary if more sightings continue.
The sighting put a damper on some July 4th plans, apparently. @BarbaraUechi tweets:

On June 18, a shark attack at Kekaha Kai State Park, a few miles north, sent a 28 year old Kona man to the hospital.
