HILO, Hawaii – The life of Hilo attorney Gerard Lee Loy was celebrated in Keaukaha on Memorial Day. Lee Loy died of an apparent heart attack on May 1st at the age of 67.

Lee Loy was a respected lawyer. Friends called him courageous in the courtroom setting. But Lee Loy was also known as a U.S. Navy veteran, an ocean lover and canoe paddler, and a beloved family man.

In memory of Lee Loy, Big Island Video News is posting the video recording of one of his last public appearances, testifying at the University of Hawaii Board of Regents meeting on the subject of Mauna Kea, and the contentious building of the Thirty Meter Telescope. Lee Loy died suddenly just a few days later.
