(BIVN) – The federal government was shut down over the weekend, but Congress was in session, in the hopes lawmakers would strike a deal to fund operations.
A deal was not reached, however the Senate will attempt a vote on Monday to fund the government up to February 8. The agreement is predicated on taking up legislation to address immigration.
Much of Saturday’s debate focused on the blame game. Democrats are putting it all on Trump and the GOP-controlled House and Senate. Republicans are pointing the finger at Chuck Schumer (D-NY), the Senate Minority Leader. Both sides pushed the terms “Trump Shutdown” and “Schumer Shutdown”, complete with hashtags, when talking about the lapse in federal funding.
