HAWAII ISLAND – The National Weather Service has extended the High Surf Warning for north facing shores of the Island of Hawaii to 6 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday November 9.
Hawaii County Civil Defense issued a new message this evening, saying that due to dangerous surf conditions, the following Beach Parks will remain closed:
- Richardson Beach Park
- Leleiwi Beach Park
- Carlsmith Park
- James Kealoha Park
- Onekahakaha Park
The warning-level surf is associated with a very large north-northwest swell.
Wave heights will continue to subside overnight. 18 to 25 foot surf along north facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island will likely dropping below advisory levels Wednesday.
Forecasters say we can still “expect ocean water occasionally sweeping across portions of beaches, very strong breaking waves and strong longshore and rip currents.”
Breaking waves may also occasionally impact harbors making navigating the harbor channel dangerous, forecasters say.
