HILO, Hawaii: Yesterday, we showed you video of former councilwoman Emily Naeole, giving testimony to the council on the matter of Hawaiian sovereignty.

But that wast the only thing on Naeole’s list to talk about. She also had something to say about the proposed new county building code.

Indeed, a number of residents from Puna made their opinions known about the new codes, which have been debated, vetted, voted, and reconsidered time and again for the past three years.

These residents insist that the code is going to be trouble for their way of life.

Once again, a vote on the new building code was postponed after new amendments were introduced. Some officials believe the amendments may not even be legal, since the law allows state code to preempt the county code if it is more stringent.
