(BIVN) – The National Weather Service issued a Coastal Flood Statement on Tuesday, warning of nuisance coastal flooding along shoreline areas through Wednesday morning.
“Peak monthly high tides combined with water levels that are running higher than predicted will lead to minor flooding along the shoreline and in low-lying coastal areas,” the forecasters wrote. “Coastal flooding is expected around the daily early morning peak tide.”
The National Weather Service says flooding could occur along vulnerable low-lying coastal roadways, docks, boat ramps and other coastal infrastructure. There could also be some flooding of beaches that are normally dry, minor coastal erosion, and saltwater inundation.
“Avoid driving through flooded roadways,” the forecasters advised. “If you are forced to drive through salt water, be sure to rinse your vehicle with fresh water. Move electronics, vehicles or other valuables to higher ground.”
Boaters should also “monitor vessels to ensure mooring lines don’t get too tight and watch out for overwash around boat ramps,” the forecasters said. “Secure canoes or other watercraft stowed on beaches.”
